Is Your Phone Calling to Say Goodbye? Telltale Signs It’s Time for a New One

We all need phones. They’re entertaining, suitable for emergencies, and, let’s face it, our society is becoming tech-dependent. So, you need to know if you have a phone that needs a break, or if you have a phone that’s trying to tell you it’s on its last charge. If you pay attention to the signs your phone is trying to tell you, it will save you a lot of money in the long run. So let’s see some signs your phone is giving up.

Updates

It’s annoying that our phones update so frequently. However, the truth is that if your phone is trying to update, there is a reason for it. If you have an older device, be aware that the manufacturer will eventually stop sending updates. That means you’re at risk for security issues, and worse. You need to keep your phone up to date.

Apps

Along with updates, apps often won’t work on outdated phones either. Most apps need the newest (or at least a newer) operating system. If you’re losing access to your apps, it means that you have a phone that can’t handle them. That impacts your productivity and other areas of your life. This is another reason you need to stay current.

Storage

If your phone never has storage, this is another sign that your phone doesn’t have much left. A lack of storage slows down your phone, compromises security (because your phone can’t update), and constantly deleting all your files can be frustrating, as you risk losing things you need. If you upgrade and get more storage, you won’t have to worry about cleaning up all the time.

Advancements

There have been numerous advancements in phones, including fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, and enhanced security options. It’s entirely your choice whether to use these options, as many people don’t. Some people believe that they’re not necessary and can be problematic. However, if you want a phone that works quickly, it’s recommended that you consider the possibilities.

Performance

Older phones often experience lag and stutter. It can be highly annoying. Slow load times and delays indicate that you need an upgrade for better speed and performance. You can’t multitask with a phone that can’t do its job. If you find that it’s as useful as a paperweight, consider getting a new phone.

Connection

If you’re connected to Wi-Fi and it drops frequently, it’s a sign that your phone is older and may have hardware issues, resulting in an unreliable connection. Over time, the connectivity problems will worsen, and eventually, you won’t be able to use it much. Therefore, it’s better to get a new phone before this happens.

Freezing

A restart isn’t always going to stop a phone from freezing. If you have a device that can’t handle new demands and experiences glitches, freezing, or crashing, it’s time to retire your phone. Once it can no longer reboot, it’s done, and you could lose everything on your phone if you haven’t taken the proper steps to save your data.

Charging

Can you charge your phone at night, and does it stay charged all day? If not, you have a problem. Batteries are supposed to lose charge, but slowly. The process shouldn’t take less than an hour if you’re not doing anything on it. Upgrading to a better model could mean a phone that you can use all day, rather than one that you can only use for a short period.

Damage

This one is a bit more obvious, but if you have a phone that’s damaged or broken, it won’t work. Tape can only hold slight cracks together for so long. If it’s extremely cracked, you know you won’t be able to make it work. Not to mention, if you’re using it cracked, chemicals can come into contact with your skin (on older phones), or you may have glass splinters on your skin. However, be cautious of accidentally ingesting glass or chemicals, and in extreme cases, be aware of potential battery leakage.

Fully Charge

We mentioned that the battery dying quickly is a problem, but if your phone can’t charge fully at all, you’ve got a bigger issue. Not being able to charge is often a problem with the cables, and the ports could be clogged. Regular maintenance can help, but if you’ve done all that and your phone still doesn’t work, it’s likely a more serious issue.

Stay In The Know

With these tips, you’ll understand how to listen to your phone. There are subtle signs that it cannot take any more strain or that it’s on its last legs, and in many of these situations, the best thing you can do is buy a new phone. Maintenance in these cases can be expensive, and it may not always be effective. Know when to throw in the towel and you’ll save money.
