Right on Target: How the Retail Giant Plans to Hit $15 Billion by 2030

Target has announced various investments that aim to add billions of dollars to its profit by 2030. Their focus is to bring customers the most affordable, yet trendy, choices, as they reinforce Target’s one-of-a-kind, all-inclusive shopping experience. An effort is also being made to have buyers choose Target over other competitors, as they expand their Target Circle benefits and increase the speed and capabilities of fulfillment services. Target aims to bring discovery and fun back into the consumer market.

Reimagine Key Product Categories

Target seems to understand the large, profitable gap in the market that gaming, sports, and toys can bring them. With its plan to expand its assortments and enhance in-store experiences, Target is taking advantage of one of the biggest and fastest-growing industries in the world – gaming. Its leap into sports also allows for its brand to be recognized as more youth-centered and celebratory of exercise and sports culture. Not to mention, they are also focusing on making each section more trendy, especially with their incorporation of brands like Threshold or Hearth & Hand.

Target Plus Expansion

Target plans to not only expand its Target Plus membership but also its entire digital ecosystem. They understand that the evolution of digital sales will only grow their business, and that is why they have created a plan to increase sales from $1 billion in 2024 to $5 billion in 2030. By adding more options for consumers, they are expanding on the offers they can make to current members while ensuring the newly added products attract first-time guests.

AI-Powered Product Recommendations

One innovation that is sure to assist their financial vision is the implementation of AI-product recommendations. Since Target aims to expand its digital platforms, it’s no wonder they are also using AI to further improve its deliverables and lure investors. This plan aims to use artificial intelligence to offer consumers a more personalized and relevant product recommendation – one that ideally won’t disturb their browsing but integrates it with relevant trends and specialized recommendations.

Social Media Trend Integration

One of their main focuses with this new transformation is the aim to have consumers discover more and make more impulse decisions. With the use of social media, Target plans to broaden the reach they have across digital platforms to lure new guests. Since AI is being used to influence relevant product recommendations, new customers will be met with items Target understands they want. This will lead many customers to choose Target as their go-to supplier for most of their needs and pull new customers into a world of impulse decisions that will ideally lead them to a more regular purchasing habit at Target.

Store Expansion Strategy

Target has previously vowed to build over 300 stores in over 10 years. Between 2025 and 2030, another 20 are planned to be built and many current stores are up for remodeling. The majority of these new stores will incorporate their stores-as-hubs model, featuring large format builds that aim to provide the perfect in-house experience and digital fulfillment destination. These large stores allow Target to supply its customers with almost anything they’re looking for, with the stores-as-hubs model acting as the tool to use if a store doesn’t have what you’re looking for.

Roundel Media Investment

Target has also decided to invest more funds into Roundel, which is their in-house media company. With revenue in 2024 totaling around $2 billion, the added investment plans to double Roundel’s size and draw countless new customers to the platform. To keep with the trend of personalization, Target aims to make Roundel more personalized than ever and integrate it with its other platforms like Target Plus and Target Circle.

AI-Powered Supply Chain Modernization

Target aims to cut back on the number of out-of-stock items and improve general supply chains throughout their physical and digital landscapes. They plan to use AI to modernize their inventory management, which they say will help reduce out-of-stock items on their platform and make sure items are delivered to the appropriate warehouses that have low stock. They are also looking at improving their delivery solutions once it is clear that the supply chain modernization is a success, as to speed up delivery to all their customers.

Target Circle 360 Growth Strategy

In 2024, more than 13 million members signed up for Target Circle 360, but Target wants to triple these memberships in three years. The Target Circle 360 membership comes out at either $10.99 a month or $99 a year ($49 if you have a Target Circle Card). This membership’s biggest selling point comes when you are already a Target Circle Cardholder.

Enhance Target Circle 360 Benefits

The enhancement of Target Circle 360 is tied to its added benefits, enhancements, and perks that will come into effect as time progresses. While it is already alluring to get yourself a Target Circle Card to get better benefits for Circle 360, their new partnerships will create a new avenue for cardholders that have benefits similar to insurance companies or banks. Their latest partnership plan is with Marriott Bonvoy, as they plan to make traveling more rewarding and easier for members of Circle 360.

Growth Strategy for Same-Day Services

Target’s fastest-growing mode of shopping in 2024 was its same-day shipping services, in part because of the growth made by Circle 360. With this data, Target aims to expand further into this avenue, as they see even greater growth is possible for these services in 2025 and the years to come. They are also focusing on user experience with the Drive Up and Return options, as they find ways to improve and make them more convenient.
