Every generation thinks the one before it is out of touch, and the one after it is a little too much, right? But Gen Z and Boomers, they might as well live on different planets! From work to social media to money, here’s how these two generations see the world in wildly different ways.
Work-Life Balance vs. Workaholic Culture

Boomers lived to work. They did long hours, remained loyal to one company, and climbed the corporate ladder. Gen Z? They work to live, valuing flexibility, mental health days, and remote jobs. To Boomers, that’s lazy. To Gen Z, that’s just common sense. We know which one sounds more appealing!
Saving or Spending

Boomers are all about saving, investing, and not buying those pricey daily lattes. Gen Z know life is unpredictable, so they’re not afraid to splurge on experiences, aesthetics, and, yes, overpriced coffee! Who needs a house when you can have a happy life? You never know what tomorrow brings – enjoy!
Learning Methods

Boomers grew up believing in hierarchy at work, in government, or in society. Gen Z? Not so much. They challenge outdated traditions, call out injustice, and believe respect should be earned, not automatically given. They’re quick to ask questions, while Boomers would sit silently and figure it out for themselves.
Technology: Necessary Evil or Digital Lifeline

To Boomers, phone screens are distractions. To Gen Z, they’re survival tools. They socialize, work, and even date through their phones. Boomers struggle to adapt to technological advancements while Gen Z are the true natives. Boomers might accuse Gen Z of too much phone time, but is it plain envy?
Privacy vs. Oversharing

Boomers are paranoid about privacy. Shred your documents! Don’t give out your real name online! Gen Z, meanwhile, posts their entire life on TikTok, from breakups to mental health struggles. They don’t see it as oversharing, it’s just being real. Maybe it’s about striking a healthy balance somewhere in the middle.
The College Debate

Boomers see college as a must, a ticket to success. Gen Z? With skyrocketing tuition and student debt, many are questioning if a degree is even worth it. Trade schools, freelancing, and self-taught skills are looking way more attractive. Plus, influencers and YouTube entrepreneurs are absolutely killing it. College? No thanks.
Phone Calls vs. Texts

Boomers pick up the phone. Gen Z lets it go to voicemail and responds with a text three days later. Why call when you can send a meme that perfectly sums up your emotions? Plus, WhatsApp is the way to socialize nowadays. And Snapchat. And TikTok. And email. Calls? So old school.
Cable TV vs. Social Media

Boomers trust the evening news. Gen Z gets updates from TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram. Traditional media? Too slow and, frankly, too biased. Instead, they rely on independent creators who break news in real time. Plus, they can catch up on the news by reading all the posts from their online tribe anyway!
Drunk vs Sober Partying

Boomers knew how to have a good time, and alcohol was always on the agenda. Beer, spirits, or an evening of cocktails were necessities for this party-mad generation. Gen Z are opting out of alcohol and choosing fitness, wellbeing, and no hangovers! They’re quite happy to dance sober all night long!
Slow Change vs. Immediate Action

Boomers believe change happens gradually. Gen Z doesn’t have that patience. They want social justice, climate action, and equality—now! To Boomers, that’s being idealistic. To Gen Z, it’s just survival. They’ll often be seen fighting a worthy cause, and they won’t stop until they see change. Bravado, we say!
Mental Health Stigma vs. Openness

Boomers didn’t talk about mental health. Therapy? Only for ‘serious’ issues. Gen Z openly discusses anxiety, depression, and self-care. To Boomers, that can seem self-indulgent. To Gen Z, it’s just taking care of themselves. They simply don’t want to carry their troubles with them into the rest of their lives.
Marriage and Family

Boomers saw marriage and kids as part of life’s blueprint. Gen Z? They’re in no rush or skipping it altogether. With financial instability and shifting values, many prefer pets, plants, and independence over the traditional nuclear family. Expect a new generation of child-free, independent people. They’re far too busy for kids!
Troubleshooting Strategies

Boomers want to speak to a manager. They’ll wait on hold for hours if they have to. If they get cut off, they’ll phone back and do it all again. Gen Z? They’ll just @ the brand on Twitter. For them, social media is the fastest way to get results, no awkward phone calls required.
Partying vs Chilling

Boomers spent their evenings and weekends partying with friends. To them, the thriving club scene with great music and social interaction was where it was at. Gen Z prefer the chilled life; intimate meet-ups with close friends for chatting, gaming and binge-watching Netflix. The two generations are vastly different when it comes to socializing.
Living Life to the Full

Boomers define success as a stable career, homeownership, and a solid retirement plan. Gen Z? It’s about personal fulfilment, happiness, and making each moment count. Weekends aren’t for catching up on chores, they’re for kicking back, relaxing, and hanging out with friends. Jobs can wait for another day. What a life!
