Moosehead Lake Scenic Byway

If you stop at Sawyer’s Maple Farm, you can experience local maple items. There are also areas to hike at Mount Kineo, and you’ll see amazing mountain views.
Schoodic National Scenic Byway
This is considered one of the best scenic drives. It explores less-developed areas, and it’s a quieter, more peaceful ride. You can see Acadia National Park and the surrounding areas, including Prospect Village. You can also enjoy Kids Quests stops if you have little ones with you.
Acadia All-American Road
This drive is considered by many to be the gold standard of byways. It begins on Route 3 and moves on from there. You’ll start on the mainland before moving onto Mount Desert Island. Pequawket Trail Scenic Byway

Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway

Grafton Notch Scenic Byway
Beginning in Newry, you’ll travel on Route 26 and follow Bear River for the majority of this trip. It’s peaceful, and you’re surrounded by natural beauty. There are old farmhouses and stone walls to see, and most of this area is now working forestland. It’s a stunning sight to see.
Blackwoods Scenic Byway
At about 12.5 miles, this is a shorter drive, taking about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. People have said that it’s a bit eerie because of the story behind it. Legend has it that a ghost named Catherine haunts the route searching for her lost lover.
St. John Valley Scenic Byway
Newer than the others on this list, it combines scenery with culture. You get to see natural resources and historic sites, along with forests, fields, and towns. Old Canada Road National Scenic Byway
Whether you want a pleasant drive, a chance to connect with history, or an opportunity to get away, this is a great option. It’s 78 miles long and begins at Route 201, ending at the Canadian border. You can also extend the trip by visiting the Kennebec River or the nearby mountains.
High Peaks Scenic Byway
If you love winter sports, this is the one for you. This route connects historical towns like Kingfield to Eustis. Even outside of winter, you’ll see spectacular sights along the way. The route passes by Flagstaff Lake, Cathedral Pines, and other areas of note. If you go down Route 27, you’ll also see the Dead River. In winter, it’s great for snowmobiling and skiing.

Located in the southeast area of Aroostook County, it’s shorter than the others on this list at only 8 miles. However, with the lake views and Mount Katahdin in sight, you’re not missing out. You can boat, camp, and go rafting here; there’s much history to explore. It’s just you and nature.
