You can tell a lot about someone by the car they drive. A model and make can be just as revealing as a bumper sticker, expressing one’s temperament, values, and class status. From Volkswagen Beetles to Tesla Trucks and Hummers to Mini Coopers, here are 15 cars and what they say about you.
Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius was one of the first hybrid cars to become popular. Fueled by a combination of gas and electric, the Prius is the car of choice for environmentally conscious people. Its drivers believe in science and that burning fossil fuels such as gas is deteriorating our Earth’s greenhouse gases. They can drive with a pompous air knowing that they are saving the environment.
Tesla Truck

Tesla has been in the news lately because of their new self-driving feature, which more times than not, it has caused serious injury. People have died because of their eagerness to innovate. But that doesn’t stop Elon Musk or Tesla. And for this, people who drive Tesla Trucks embrace the future and all the technological advances it will bring. They communicate their driver likes to take chances and live daringly. However, most people scuff at the vehicle. Its blatant futuristic design emits a certain smugness that many detest.
Volkswagen Beetle

In grade school, it was customary to slug your friend in the arm any time you spotted a Volkswagen Beetle. With the pronunciation of “slug bug,” you had free rein to commit violence. The unique compact car has a distinct, rounded shape that is unlike anything else on the road. People who drive Beetles are often eccentric and artsy. They tell others its driver is a little quirky. They might be a little sadistic too knowing their recognition will incite punches.
Ford F-150

Big trucks are for tough guys. At least, that’s the impression these vehicles give. But often the joke is that they are overcompensating for something…their ego. Yeah, that’s it. Despite this, owning a truck like the Ford F-150 has a practical use—you can haul heavy stuff like bricks, trees, and furniture. You want to at least have one friend with a truck in the event that you have to move.
Mazda Miata

Boys like blue and girls like pink. At least that is what Western society tells us. Vehicles can also gravitate towards specific genders. For example, the Mazda Miata, a small compact convertible with a rounded body, tends to be favored by women. The vehicle’s features exude prissiness, whether intentional or not.
Volkswagen Bus

The sight of a Volkswagen Bus takes us back to the era of peace and love. Most associated with the hippie movement in the 1960s, this vehicle gives the impression its owner likes to “turn on, tune in, and drop out.” A symbol of time, you may spot newly refurbished ones around town. If its owner is young, they will not be shy about their affinity for counterculture. Older owners might tell you about their Woodstock trip.
Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is popular amongst classic car aficionados. The vehicle’s pronounced body shape and impressive horsepower has earned its reputation as a muscle car. If you own this vehicle, especially an older one, it might tell others you like to frequent car shows. A modern version exists today, too. You have the need for speed if you own a Ford Mustang no matter what year it was produced.
Tesla

Tesla cars are relatively new to the market. They are run on electricity and are expensive. People who own a Tesla believe they are superior beings because they are helping the environment. But by the same token, it tells others you either make a lot of money or have a lot of money. When you see someone driving one of these cars it’s hard not to say “jerk” under your breath.
Hummer

You’ll recognize this formidable vehicle. These vehicles are practically military grade, looking like they could drive through a warzone and come out in one piece. This is part of the reason why people like them so much. This vehicle says “I am not to be messed with.” People who own one of these don’t care much for the environment because they are gas guzzlers. But don’t say that to their face unless you are looking for a confrontation.
Lamborghini

Lamborghinis are luxury cars that are fast and expensive. Only people who have money can afford them. Their body shape is futuristic and ornate, and the doors actually open up instead of out. If you own a Lamborghini, you are essentially saying “I make at least six figures.” There’s a reason you see these cars in rap videos. They are glamorous!
Mini Cooper

When most people think of Mini Coopers, they think European. Well, that’s because they’re manufactured there. The compact car usually has a white top or racing stripes on the front. People who drive a Mini Cooper are often considered classy or fancy. They tell others they are very cultured. This is the wrong car for you if this is not the impression you want to give people.
Mini Van

Being a parent is exhausting. After school you have to get the kids to soccer practice or music lessons. You need a vehicle that will help you get them to their next activity, which is why many families get a minivan. Often the term “Soccer Mom” is synonymous with the minivan, and although it is used as a derogatory slight, these vehicles are practical. Especially if it’s your turn to carpool.
Vintage Cadillac

Cadillac cars from the 1950s were out of this world. The body design looked futuristic—almost as if it could take off and fly into space. If you drive one of these you either enjoy classic cars or have a lot of money. You rarely get to see these cars in pristine condition, unless they were refurbished. People who drive these love the attention that their car gets.
Dodge Charger

The boys in the hit TV series Dukes of Hazzard rode in a 60s Dodge Charger. A Confederate flag graced the top, and the car was as fast as ever. They were able to outrun the law in every episode. If you own one of these vehicles, it might tell people you have some Southern heritage or like to go fast. It’s a bit of a bad boy car, and even the modern versions look pretty slick.
Chevy El Camino

Is it a car or a truck? Well, it’s both! The El Camino is a neat looking vehicle—it’s like a sedan but has an open trunk. When people think about these cars, they’re usually associated with Mexico. Why? Because of the Spanish name. If you own one of these cool cars you might have some family south of the border. Or it might tell people you like to ride in style and go fast.
