15 Jobs You Might Not Want, But the World Can’t Function Without

Not all jobs are entertaining, but they’re necessary, so even if we hate them, we have to do them. For instance, maintenance specialists and other professionals often receive unwarranted criticism and hostility, but they provide essential services that society needs. For more jobs people love to hate, check out our list!

Janitors

Janitors don’t have a glamorous job, and most complain about people who have treated them horribly. Polls suggest that people in this profession have been mocked, degraded, had objects thrown at them, or, at worst, been hurt. These statistics are disheartening when you consider all the work these individuals do for hospitals, schools, and other organizations.

Retail Workers

Anyone who has ever worked in retail knows it can be one of the worst jobs, especially when you have people calling you horrid names, insulting you, and making you bite back tears. They also have to deal with people recording them and ignoring their pleas to stop.

Children’s Services

It’s a thankless and oftentimes depressing job. People often blame them for something that isn’t their fault, and the cases can be emotionally draining, even for the strongest individuals. People complain that the system isn’t helping those who have the children’s best interests at heart. Some people have even been shot at in this job.

Housekeepers

Housekeeping is another thankless job where some people believe it’s acceptable to be rude. Housekeepers see disgusting things; they make your house safe for better air quality. If you’re a person who doesn’t want to clean, keep in mind that housekeeping is backbreaking work that not many can do.

Flight Attendant

While this is an important job, you must be aware that it comes with a great deal of disrespect. People like to sneer at this job and even make fun of those who do it (until they want an upgrade or something from you). The thing is, without these dedicated people, you wouldn’t fly.

Waiter

Waiters and waitresses have it tough. You always smell like food, people can be rude, and depending on where you work, the people who come in are often drunk. The hours are long, the environment is hostile, and the tips aren’t always great. Most waiters and waitresses have to work long hours because they can’t earn a livable wage.

Chef

Without chefs, you wouldn’t eat. However, thanks to entitlement and rude people, chefs often receive more hate than they deserve. The wait time, flavor, and ingredients are all things people tend to complain about. The thing is, chefs try to make great food that tastes amazing, but they can’t cook any faster, and people need to be patient.

Nurses

Nurses don’t get to have breaks, they wear diapers because they can’t go to the bathroom, and they are rewarded with people screaming at them and being rude. People are scared, and they take their frustration out on nurses when they shouldn’t. It’s already a thankless job from those who are kind and caring. Remember, they’re trying to help you.

Construction

For some reason, people don’t regard this job well. People tend to judge it harshly or consider it a “poor” job. That makes no sense to a lot of people, because it’s not only necessary work, but it’s mentally and physically exhausting, with people suffering permanent back issues, arm issues, and other health problems from the work. As people seek more digital jobs, there is also a significant shortage of workers in this field.

Customer Support

If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve likely seen videos highlighting why customer support is considered one of the worst fields to enter. However, if you haven’t seen them, customer service can be a challenging field to get into due to the people involved. People don’t like waiting in the queue for an hour (understandable), so when they finally get through, they start yelling at the worker. Like others, it takes a mental toll, and the hours are long.

Maintenance

This job is a love-hate relationship, because when you need a worker, you love them; however, when they’re working on something and you’re in a rush, you probably hate them. This is not a glamorous job. No one wants to unclog toilets and deal with people yelling at them, but these workers make the world go round.

Road Maintenance

This is another love-hate job, because if there’s a pothole or another issue, like snow, people usually see its value. However, if you’re driving, in a rush, and don’t want to stop, then you’re going to get mad and dislike it. The sad truth is that these workers have almost been run over; they get screamed at and told they are worthless, and they have even had things thrown at them just for doing their jobs.

Truck Drivers

You hate getting stuck behind them or having them tailgate, which is completely understandable, but you need to remember that without these workers, stores wouldn’t have anything for us to eat. They put in long hours, hardly ever sleep, and deal with physical and mental toil daily, receiving little to no thanks.

Security

Not only is this job dangerous, but you could potentially lose your life. People don’t like guards for one reason or another, and it’s not fair to them because they’re doing what they’ve been told to do. If they can’t let you into a building, you should not resort to physical violence. If they can’t tell you something, you shouldn’t scream at them just because they’re risking their job.

Tow Trucks

Tow truck drivers have a bad rap, but again, they’re just doing their job. They don’t follow people around like stalkers, deciding they’re going to tow you every day and make your life miserable. They get a call and tow. The competition between companies is annoying because prices are high, but there’s not much we can do about that.

They’re Important

Although these jobs often receive criticism, remember that they’re essential to ensuring that our cities can continue to function and keep people safe. A minor inconvenience is worth the wait, and there’s no reason to be mean. Be kind and consider that these people are just trying to get by, just like you.
